Cam Heyward completed his 15th season with the Steelers, all under head coach Mike Tomlin. The seven-time Pro Bowler has one more year left on a contract revised last fall, but he wasn’t ready to commit to any 2026 plans during a Wednesday interview on ESPN’s “The Rich Eisen Show.”

“I’m working on that,” Heyward said when asked if he wants to keep playing.

Following two straight offseason contract disputes, Heyward said his choice doesn’t boil down to money. The star defensive tackle has especially needed to regroup after Tomlin stepped down last month.

“It’s not that,” he said of his contract. “It’s more just about where I’m at, and kind of just decompressing after the season. That whole week of Mike T and everything, it kind of threw me for the biggest loop.”

Heyward cited the sacrifices he and his family have made during his lengthy career. He’s returned to “dad mode” after Pittsburgh’s playoff elimination.

“Fifteen years is 15 years,” Heyward said. “It’s not like I’m a spring chicken, but still trying to craft and still trying to get better. All of these things go into mind. And is it good for my family for me to keep playing? They want to see me not just now, but years from now. I got to make sure I take care of my body.”

Earlier in the interview, Heyward said that pursuing his first Super Bowl ring has remained a key motivator to keep playing. He feels that all his decisions to prioritize football would be “justified” if he finally won a Lombardi Trophy.

“We all want to be at the top of the mountain,” Heyward said. “I’ve accomplished a lot, but that’s one thing that’s eluded me to this point.”
