In some ways, it feels like a mic’d-up women’s league is coming two decades too late. Imagine what WTGL teams from the early 2000s would've looked like?

Annika Sorenstam and Karrie Webb weren’t media darlings, but they agreed to made-for-TV events alongside the biggest names in the men’s game and gave LPGA fans something that’s sorely missing today – a rivalry.

The list of engaging and entertaining players from 20 to 25 years ago is enviably long.

Here’s a list of 20 of the LPGA’s best characters from that timeframe:

  • Ai Miyazato
  • Annika Sorenstam
  • Beth Daniel
  • Brittany Lincicome
  • Christina Kim
  • Cristie Kerr
  • Dottie Pepper
  • Grace Park
  • Helen Alfredsson
  • Juli Inkster
  • Karrie Webb
  • Laura Davies
  • Lorena Ochoa
  • Meg Mallon
  • Michelle Wie West
  • Morgan Pressel
  • Natalie Gulbis
  • Paula Creamer
  • Se Ri Pak
  • Suzann Pettersen

As it stands now, Nelly Korda, the top-ranked American player, is not part of the new WTGL, though it’s still early in the process. The tech-driven league’s first wave of committed players included world No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul, LPGA Hall of Famer Lydia Ko, Canada's winningest golfer Brooke Henderson, major champion Lexi Thompson and three-time winner Charley Hull. Lottie Woad and Rose Zhang have since been added.

The league is slated to launch winter 2026-2027, and contests will be held at the custom-built SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
