Brendan Schaub: Dana White helped turn UFC fans against Tom Aspinall

Brendan Schaub says it doesn't help that Dana White wasn't very empathetic toward Tom Aspinall.

Immediately after Aspinall (15-3 MMA, 8-1 UFC) was unable to continue in his heavyweight title fight against Ciryl Gane (13-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) at UFC 321, which was ruled a no contest, White said during the post-fight news conference that only the champion knows what happened and that he can't make people fight.

Aspinall was disappointed with White's reaction, but the UFC CEO insisted that he never spoke negatively about the champ. Schaub believes the hate toward Aspinall is unfair, and the notion that Gane was piecing him up is unjustified.

"You know how dumb you have to be? You're talking about the guy who grew up in a jiu-jitsu dojo, who's dedicated his entire life, who is the baddest man walking the planet. He would be faking all this for what?" Schaub said of Aspinall on "X." "Because of Ciryl Gane? No one's scared of Ciryl Gane. It's a great matchup for Tom. What the f*ck are you talking about?

"That's why the fights are five rounds, dumbass. I don't get it. It's heartbreaking. What makes Dana great is he shoots from the hip, and he's not so politically correct. He just says what he says. Right after the fight, you could see how Dana can say that. But the issue with that is now that gives energy, and that gives perspective, so the rest of the UFC trolls jump on that, and now it just ignites the fire on top."

Aspinall has since undergone double surgery and is expected to be sidelined for months.
