· Yahoo Sports
For the fourth time in the last two days, the Cleveland Browns have promoted a defensive assistant coach. This time, defensive assistant Jeff Anderson has been promoted to nickels coach under new defensive coordinator Mike Gutenberg.

A member of the Browns' staff since the 2022 season, Anderson has been a defensive quality control assistant over the last four seasons in Cleveland. He has also coached cornerbacks at the East-West Shrine Bowl in both 2024 and 2026, seen as one of the fastest risers coaching at the event. He now gets control of his own room, even if it is the nickel cornerbacks.
Perhaps the addition of a nickel-specific coach could be a sign of how important the position is to Rutenberg as well.
Anderson joins linebackers coach Jason Tarver, who now carries the title of run game coordinator, safeties coach Ephraim Banda, who is now passing game coordinator, and Brandon Lynch, who is now defensive backs coach and passing game specialist, as coaches with new titles heading into the 2026 season after being retained from the staff of former defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.
We'll see just how fast Anderson can rise up the ranks.
