“We haven’t had one for a long time. I’m going to be really happy when we get one going again, because I enjoy softball a lot and I know other people do,” said Teagan Nelson, Sheldon R-VII School District 10th Grader.
According to the Missouri State High School Activities Association, the district hasn’t had a team since the 2018-2019 season, but that’s about change. The district is partnering with Bronaugh to get a team back on the field.
“Softball has been the sport here for many years and we hated seeing it go, we even tried to revive Baseball this year we just didn’t have the numbers for that. So, getting that (softball) to come back starts to feel like it’s the old Sheldon again,” said Jason Short, Sheldon R-VII School.

The head coach will be from Bronaugh with the assistant coach coming from Sheldon.
Players will come from both schools. Short says the co-op team is scheduled for 10 games this season.
“In a typical softball season, you can have upwards of 36. Normal seasons teams try to schedule 20, 21 somewhere in there because you expect some rainouts with the spring weather,” Joshua Short, Sheldon R-VII School District Athletic Director.
Most home games will be played in Bronaugh, but Sheldon will host one in April for Senior Night.
“If I got the opportunity I would just because I enjoy Softball so much, I enjoy being outside and I enjoy all the teammates and the memories you make I think it is a very good sport,” said Nelson.
