NFL officially announces $22 million leap for 2026 salary cap

The NFL on Friday announced the salary cap number for the 2026 season.

NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported the league's cap will sit at $301.2 million, which comes in about $22 million north of last season's $279 million figure.
The $301.2 million is also the low end of the range the NFL gave teams in late January according to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero. Teams were told to expect a salary cap in the range of $301.2 million and $305.7 million.
This marks the smallest jump in salary cap since the 2023 season when the number climbed only $16 million from $208 million to $224 million. Last year it climbed $24 million. The year before that it jumped a whopping $31 million.
It also marks the 21st time in the last 22 seasons where the cap has gone up. The only time it fell was after the COVID-19 impacted season where the cap fell $16 million from 2020 to 2021.
For the 49ers their offseason won't change much with the low-end projection coming to fruition. They're still set to be well under the cap with Over the Cap projecting them with $34,507,959 in available space under the new cap.
