Chelsea were taken to extra time by the Championship outfit after the game finished 2-2 after 90 minutes, but managed to get the job done and advance to the quarter finals with a 4-2 win.

The Blues equalised through an own goal in the first half, before Josh Acheamopong levelled the scores again in the second, with Alejandro Garnacho and Pedro finding the back of the net in extra time.

Alan Shearer praises Joao Pedro impact

As expected Liam Rosenior heavily rotated the side, and made nine changes to the team which beat Aston Villa, with many fringe players handed opportunities.

Enzo Fernandez, Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo were all left in London, whilst Pedro was named amongst the substitutes.

However, with the game heading towards extra time the Brazilian was introduced in the 85th minute, and he managed to score his 18th goal of the season, and only his first in this season’s FA Cup.

Former Newcastle striker Shearer was quick to praise Pedro for his impact as he highlighted both his composure and dribbling.

“Joao Pedro has made a huge difference for this Chelsea team with his composure and his ability to run with the ball,” he said on the BBC.

“He has options either side of him, but he chooses to go on his own [for his goal]. Chelsea are through to the next round.”

Liam Rosenior wouldn’t swap Brazilian for Erling Haaland

Pedro continued his brilliant form under Rosenior, and right now he’s arguably playing the best football of his career.

Speaking ahead of the game Rosenior admitted he wouldn’t swap Pedro for Erling Haaland, and believes he’s on the same level currently as Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe.
