While that might be the case, that has not been communicated to Brissett.
According to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss, Brissett has not been told yet that he will be the Cardinals' starter.
It could be that there are those in the front office who expect Brissett to remain the starter, and Brissett himself certainly would like the job, but it would make more sense that new head coach Mike LaFleur would have them compete for the job. He is new to the team, hasn't coached either player yet, so he can start with a clean slate.
Both have been starters and backups. Brissett is 20-45 in his career as a starter, and he went 1-11 last season, losing the last nine games, six by three or more scores. The offense averaged 18.7 points per game in the final nine games, although he did have a career year, passing for a career-high 3,366 yards and 23 touchdowns.
Minshew is 17-30 in his career as a starter.
If there is a competition, it will make the offseason and training camp slightly more intriguing, even if it won't be exciting.
