Four teams record wins in state B girls basketball tourney at Brookings

BROOKINGS — Defending champion Bennett County and top-seeded Lyman each suffered first-round losses in the 2026 State Class B girls basketball tournament on Thursday, March 12.

Eighth-seeded Corsica-Stickney (18-5) opened the day with a 65-56 win over top-seeded Lyman (21-3) and sixth-seeded Harding County (23-1) downed third-seeded Bennett County (20-4) by a 58-50 margin in the final game of the day in South Dakota State's First Bank & Trust Arena.

In other first-round games, No. 4 Ethan (22-2) topped No. 5 Colman-Egan (22-2) 51-42 and second-seeded Parkston (21-3) moved into the semifinals with a 46-39 win over seventh-seeded Centerville (21-3).

The tourney continues Friday, March 13 with consolation semifinals (Lyman vs. Colman-Egan at 11 a.m. and Centerville vs. Bennett County at 12:45 p.m. The semifinals open at 5 p.m. with Corsica-Stickney squaring off with Ethan, followed by Parkston battling Harding County at 6:45 p.m.

Four games are also scheduled for the final day of the tourney on Saturday, March 14.

Here's highlights from Thursday's openers:

No. 8 Corsica-Stickney 65, No. 1 Lyman 56

Corsica-Stickney broke away from a 29-29 halftime tie with a 19-11 third-quarter surge and held on for the win.

Braylee Bordewyk scored 26 points, Haydyn Johnson 15 and Sophie DeLange 11 for CS. Johnson also snared nine rebounds.

Jordyn Scott produced 28 points and 12 rebounds, Kenzie Wagner 12 points and seven rebounds and Mak Scott 11 rebounds for Lyman.

No. 4 Ethan 51, No. 5 Colman-Egan 42

A big third quarter also paved the way for Ethan, which overcame a 19-18 halftime deficit by outscoring Colman-Egan 16-8.

Rachel Klock tallied 17 points, Taziah Hawkins 12 and Sadie Mueller 11 for Ethan. Klock also hauled in nine rebounds.

Jolie Flatten's 22 points topped Colman-Egan, which also received 10 points and 10 rebounds from Quinn Meyer and eight rebounds from Maci Voelker.

No. 2 Parkston 46, No. 7 Centerville 39

Parkston grabbed the lead with a 10-4 scoring run in the second quarter and held off Centerville with the help of 26 points and seven rebounds from Berkley Ziebart.

Keera Oakley contributed 13 points and 12 rebounds for Parkston. Morgan Maxwell pulled down eight rebounds.

Izzie Eide finished with 22 points and eight rebounds for Centerville. Lydia Austin pitched in with seven points and Tessa Eide 10 rebounds.

No. 6 Harding County 58, No. 3 Bennett County 50

A big fourth quarter proved to be the different for Harding County, which outscored the defending champions 24-16 in the final eight minutes.

Free throws were big. Harding County drained 27 of 45 attempts compared to 13 of 23 for Bennett County.

Kaylen Padden scored 15 points and Maci Wammen 12 for the winning Ranchers. Brayden Padden hauled in nine rebounds.

Sisters Peyson O'Neill (26 points, 10 rebounds) and Reagan O'Neill (19 and 12) led BC.
