Two Boston Red Sox teammates were pitted against each other when Jarren Duran led Mexico into a World Baseball Classic matchup against Roman Anthony and the United States.

Monday's game went perfectly for American Red Sox fans. Duran homered twice, but Anthony crushed a massive three-run shot in the third inning of Team USA's 5-3 win at Daikin Park. Garrett Whitlock nailed down the save with a scoreless ninth inning.

The U.S. advanced past pool play before earning a quarterfinal victory over Canada on Friday night. On the other hand, Duran is back with the Red Sox after Mexico lost to Italy on Wednesday.

Anthony played a huge part in sending Mexico home, but Duran has no animosity toward his teammate. The 29-year-old reflected on the rising young star's big WBC moment on Saturday, via NESN's X account.

"It was hard not to be proud of him to do that," Duran said. "I mean, we all know he's a stud. For him to do that is super exciting, but I hope they go out and do their thing and continue to play good."

Duran said he'll "of course" keep watching the WBC. The California native is rooting for Anthony, Whitlock and Team USA in a seismic semifinal showdown against the Dominican Republic on Sunday night.

"I love watching baseball," Duran said. "I can never get enough of it, so I'll definitely be watching it and cheering for the boys."
