Legendary FSU QB to be special guest on MLB Opening Night

· Yahoo Sports

Florida State football and baseball appear to be more interconnected than one might think. Deion Sanders threatened to go play professional baseball rather than sign with the NFL's Atlanta Falcons after leaving Tallahassee. Jameis Winston was both a football and baseball athlete, and wouldn't you know, perhaps the latter is now paying dividends.

Netflix will air MLB games this season, and for Opening Night with the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants, Winston will be a special guest, they announced today.

Winston, who led Florida State University to a National Championship victory in 2013, also won the Heisman Trophy in his freshman year. In the baseball world, Winston was a Preseason All-American Baseball America Third Team selection and appeared in 24 games as a pitcher. In 2014, he had an ERA of just 1.08. For his efforts, he was selected in the 2012 MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers.

Indeed, Winston may have chosen football as his career, but his baseball roots go deep, and the Netflix opportunity will be the opportunity to return to the diamond as a special guest. MLB on Netflix's opening night will start on March 25. The coverage will begin at 7 p.m. ET.
