Chris Murray will be back for the Auburn Tigers for the 2026 season.

On Tuesday, The Barn reported that the Auburn defensive end would be returning to the Plains to suit up for the Tigers for another season. Later reports, including one from Jay G. Tate of Auburn Rivals, confirmed Murray would return.

This is big news for the Auburn defense that looks to add to the success they had last season under defensive coordinator DJ Durkin. Murray will factor into the Auburn pass rush with the likes of Keldric Faulk and Keyron Crawford leaving school to pursue the NFL. In 2025, Murray had 15 total tackles and was third on the team with three and a half sacks. With Faulk and Crawford gone, those sack numbers should increase for Murray. He had petitioned the NCAA for another year of eligibility, and Auburn received a big win on Tuesday.

He was one of the Tigers' top transfer portal additions heading into the 2025 season. Murray played for Sam Houston State before arriving in Auburn. During the 2023 and 2024 seasons, Murray had six and a half sacks with 50 total tackles. He was a three-star transfer portal prospect and was rated as the No. 66 EDGE rusher by 247Sports before signing with the Tigers. His best game of the 2025 season was in a 16-10 loss to Texas A&M, where he had four tackles and one sack. He had two sacks in the Tigers' 62-17 victory over the Mercer Bears. This is big news for Alex Golesh and the Auburn Tigers as they have just started spring practice.
