Local Roundup: Cochranton tops GC in softball

COCHRANTON — The Cochranton softball team won 7-1 over Grove City in a non-region game Friday.

Mara Schwartz led the way with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Jaidin Frayer had a run and a double and Karmyn Reese added a run and an RBI.

Jaidin had 15 strikeouts and did not give up an earned run in the complete-game effort.

Cochranton improved to 3-0 and will travel to Conneaut on Monday at 4 p.m. for a non-region game.

Cochranton falls in baseball

WEST MIDDLESEX — The Cochranton baseball team lost 11-1 in six innings to West Middlesex on Friday in a non-region game.

Parker Schmitt scored the lone run for the Cardinals (0-3).

Noah Carroll opened the game on the mound and had two strikeout in two innings of work. Colten Mattocks followed and recorded three strikeouts in three innings.

Cochranton hosts Saegertown at 4 p.m. on Monday.

Franklin breezes to win

FRANKLIN — The Franklin baseball team took down Grove City 11-1 in six innings in a non-region game Friday.

Jack Wimer had three runs, three RBIs and a home run for Franklin. Luke Marsteller added four RBIs and a home run and Nate Fezell had two runs scored and a RBI.

Fezell went the distance on the mound and struck out seven.

Dillon Hamilton had Rocky Grove’s only run.

Haydon Bevier and Isaac Grigsby each had two strikeouts for the Orioles.

Franklin improved to 4-0 and hosts Slippery Rock on Monday at 4 p.m. for a Region 2 game.

Rocky Grove dropped to 0-1 and travels to Cambridge Springs on Monday at 4 p.m. for a Region 3 game.
