ESPN analyst baffled by Jalen Hurts’ future debate with Eagles
· Yahoo Sports
Jalen Hurts somehow still finds himself at the center of a debate he has already answered on the field.
The Philadelphia Eagles shuffled their offensive staff, moving on from Kevin Patullo and bringing in Sean Mannion and Josh Grizzard. Early chatter revolved around Nick Sirianni’s job security, but that shifted. Now the focus has landed on Jalen Hurts.

Anonymous voices within the organization surfaced in a recent ESPN report by Jeremy Fowler and Tim McManus raising questions about his decision-making and overall profile last NFL season. The criticism circles scheme fits, his role in play-calling leadership approach and inconsistency in the passing game.
Analyst calls Jalen Hurts Eagles future questioning maddening
But one ESPN analyst wasn’t having it, calling the narrative confusing and arguing that criticism around Hurts has been blown out of proportion in Philadelphia.
“I think with Jalen Hurts you gotta understand he’s not the traditional pocket passer quarterback,” Kimberley A. Martin said on First Take. “If you’re looking for him to be Tom Brady Peyton Manning Joe Burrow that’s not what he is. But what he is however is somebody who has a clutch gene like none other. He’s somebody who’s a coach’s kid.
In Philly where there’s a team that has had such success and Jalen has been a Super Bowl MVP — the fact that people are even looking at him and wondering ‘can he be the future quarterback here?’ To me, it’s just maddening. I don’t understand it. It just seems like regular issues just get overblown in Philly.”
The numbers back that up in a big way. Across 10 playoff appearances including two Super Bowl runs Hurts carries a 93.4 passer rating with 1981 yards 11 touchdowns and just three interceptions. His career record sits at 60-32-1 which puts him right around a 65 percent win rate.
Over six seasons in Philadelphia he has thrown for 17891 passing yards and 110 touchdowns while earning three Pro Bowl selections. He also has a Super Bowl title and its MVP award on his resume.

The anonymous criticism and scheme concerns feel disconnected from what he has actually delivered when the games matter most.
The real conversation in Philadelphia should not be about whether Hurts belongs, it should be about building around him well enough to bring another Lombardi Trophy home.
