Kharazi, 81, currently heads Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations and has reportedly been involved in facilitating potential direct talks between Iran and the United States. Officials cited in international reports indicated he was helping arrange a possible meeting between Iranian representatives and US Vice President JD Vance.
A veteran diplomat, Kharazi previously served as foreign minister under reformist president Mohammad Khatami and later advised Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on foreign affairs.
