Following the Chargers' signing of running back Keaton Mitchell, head coach Jim Harbaugh was vocal about the explosive potential he brings to the backfield.
Harbaugh cited him as a "specialized, change-of-pace weapon" with 4.39 speed that few in the league can match.

"He’s one of the fastest ball carriers in the game," Harbaugh said. "When you can inject that kind of speed into the heart of a defense, it changes everything for the quarterback."
Mitchell averaged an impressive 6.3 yards per carry over three seasons in Baltimore. He also had 11 runs of 10-plus yards in 2025.
Harbaugh believes Mitchell’s ability to break for touchdowns every time he touches the football will unleash Justin Herbert's ability as a passer.
Harbaugh is also excited about the "Thunder and Lightning" dynamic Mitchell creates alongside Omarion Hampton.
Mitchell is positioned as a foundational piece of the team's revamped offensive identity under Mike McDaniel.
