“The Player’s Box” podcast hosts are big winners at the Credit One Charleston Open

It has been a great week for “The Player’s Box” podcast hosts at the Credit One Charleston Open. Madison Keys was a semifinalist. Jennifer Brady, partnered with Erin Routliffe, was a doubles quarterfinalist.

Jessica Pegula repeated as singles champion, and Desirae Krawczyk, partnered with Caty McNally, was crowned doubles champion.

Tennis fans hope the hosts talk about a few things that everyone wants to know.

  1. What makes the Charleston tournament so great? It is touted as among the best on the WTA calendar. The bigger prize money checks, implemented this year, can only be part of the story.
  2. What does the victory celebration look like after Pegula’s long week of tennis with 13 hours spent on court?
  3. How do the trophies get home if players have to travel to the next tournament?
  4. Do the players’ teams ever talk in advance to avoid the identical kit scenario that Pegula and Yuliia Starodubtseva experienced in the final?
  5. How difficult is it to play with a new doubles partner for the first time in a significant tournament?

Winning is good for the players and the podcast

As tennis players, these women want to perform at a high level and win as much as possible.

A side benefit of winning is that it boosts the popularity of the podcast.

We were robbed of a Keys vs. Pegula final as we were already thinking of a follow-up to the Australian Open bet the two made when they played each other.

Let’s hope there is more winning (and silly bets) as the hosts continue playing this season. It is good for the sport and ratings.
