Green Bay Packers to hire Christian Watson’s college coach

Iowa State's wide receiver coach Noah Pauley talks to media at the school football facility on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, in Ames, Iowa.

According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, the Green Bay Packers will be hiring Penn State receivers coach Noah Pauley to serve in the same role. Pauley followed head coach Matt Campbell from Iowa State to Penn State this offseason. Previously, Pauley had been the receivers coach at Minnesota-Duluth (2016-2018, concurrently holding the title of offensive coordinator), North Dakota State (2019-2022) and Iowa State (2023-2025, also serving as the passing game coordinator from 2024 to 2025).

Under Pauley at North Dakota State, Packers receiver Christian Watson developed into a top-40 selection. Pauley also coached receivers Jayden Higgins (34th pick in 2025) and Jaylin Noel (79th pick in 2025) at Iowa State.

What this means for Green Bay receivers coach Ryan Mahaffey, who was promoted into the role in 2024 after serving two years as the team’s assistant offensive line coach, is uncertain. It is worth mentioning here, though, that head coach Matt LaFleur’s younger brother, Mike LaFleur, just took over as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. Mike has already hired 2025 analyst Nathaniel Hackett, who previously served as Matt’s offensive coordinator from 2019 to 2021. Several defensive coaches have also left to join Jeff Hafley’s staff with the Miami Dolphins. Mahaffey may end up in either Arizona or Miami.

The Packers still need to hire a quarterbacks coach, too, as Sean Mannion left to become the play-calling offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles. Look for them to sign one in the coming weeks.
