Ronda Rousey brought Gina Carano fight to Dana White: It didn't exactly work out'

The UFC isn't involved in Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano, but it sounds like the company was presented with the opportunity.

According to Ronda Rousey, she approached UFC CEO Dana White about the fight. However, "it didn't exactly work out" for unspecified reasons.

"I always said that Gina is the one person I’d come back to fight for," Rousey said Tuesday on ESPN's SportsCenter. "I thought, 'She needs this. She needs this fight.' The more that I thought about it, I thought, ‘I need this. I need this fight.’ I reached out to Dana and asked him if he would be interested in it and it didn’t exactly work out with the UFC. But it led us to here today.”

It's unclear why the UFC didn't get involved in the business of promoting what will likely be one of the most-viewed fights of the year. However, White has repeatedly voiced distaste about matchmaking older fighters who are far past their prime. In due time, White will almost certainly weigh in on why the UFC isn't a part of the May 16 event at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif.
