Olympic champion faces familiar challenge
China's Wang Zhiyi will be the main threat to Se-young in Birmingham. [Shi Tang / Getty Images]World number one An Se-young of South Korea is looking to retain the Women's Singles crown in Birmingham and win a third All England Open title in four years.
Se-young has been the dominant force in badminton in the past three years, bringing back an Olympic gold medal from Paris in 2024, a year after securing her first World Championships title.
She will face China's number two seed Wang Zhiyi in the final, who Se-young defeated in last year's final.
The pair have met in nine finals since the beginning of 2025 with Se-young coming out on top every time - so can Zhiyi finally break through at the tenth attempt?
Can Sen win again?

The result was one of the biggest of the 24-year-old's career and came in the same city where he won a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
He also overcame 2023 champion Li Shifeng of China in Friday's quarter-finals and Canadian Victor Lai in the semi-final on Saturday to set up a showdown with Lin Chun-Yi in the final.
Lin Chun-Yi sprung an upset of his own in the semi-final, defeating Thailand's number two seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn.
