Browns procedurally 'release' three with Post-June 1 designations

· Yahoo Sports

The Cleveland Browns have "released" right tackle Jack Conklin, tight end David Njoku, and right guard Wyatt Teller.

I put the word released in quotations because Conklin, Njoku, and Teller were never under contract with the Browns for the 2026 season. However, his contract was set to be voided today. The Browns had to "release" the three from that contract with a Post-June 1 designation to avoid a steep dead cap charge.

Instead, now, the dead cap charge will be minimal, an acceleration of the void years attached to the back of their contract that can now stretch into 2027 as well.

How much dead cap money will the Browns incur?

The Browns will be hit with a dead cap charge of $12.4 million in 2026 as the void years attached to the back of Conklin's contract, designed to spread out the guaranteed money and accelerate the moment he was released. He is completely off the books after the 2026 season.

The Browns will take on $9.5 million in dead cap in 2026 and $14.7 million in 2027 for Njoku's void years, and $8.2 million in 2026 and $11.1 million in 2027 for Teller's void years.
