Watch Blackstone Valley's Colin Dorgan score epic goal in double OT

One of the most incredible sports stories of the year -- any year -- took place on Wednesday night at Schneider Arena in Rhode Island, where Blackstone Valley took the ice against Portsmouth.
The team has been in the national spotlight since last month, when Robert Dorgan came to the team's home rink and killed three members of his family while his son was playing in a game.

Eighteen days after the Feb. 16 shooting, the team had returned to playing games. Coach Chris Librizzi told the Providence Journal the resilience he had seen was remarkable.
“What I’ve witnessed over the last two weeks since the unfortunate tragedy has been nothing less than amazing,” Librizzi said. “The way that this hockey family came together as one. We got together every single day except for two snowstorm days. Every day after practice we ate dinner together for about 11 days straight. They just came together as a family, which we tried to teach them from Day 1 is that we are a hockey family.”
Then, on Wednesday night, as the Division II semifinal went to double overtime, something wonderful happened. Colin Dorgan took a pass at center ice and moved in on a breakaway.
Dorgan, who wears a patch on his sweater with the initials of his fallen mother, brother and grandfather, took a wrister that found the net... and just like that, Blackstone Valley is on its way to the state championship game.

Librizzi spoke glowingly of Dorgan, who took the first shift when BVS returned to action.
“The kid is just the heart of this team,” Librizzi told the Journal of Dorgan. “He’s been a solid captain for us all year. He leads by example, and him coming back to this team like he did, stepping up and trying to get back to a little bit of a state of normalcy. He’s just an amazing young man.
"I just can't be more proud of Colin Dorgan with everything that he's gone through, and his sister Ava [Dorgan]. To come out like he has and be a leader of this team and guide the team forward."
