Bartholomew, Malott homer in road victory

OMAHA, Neb. — Iowa State softball (16-10, 0-3 Big 12) recorded a 6-2 victory over Creighton (12-17, 4-2 BIG EAST) Wednesday evening at Creighton Softball Stadium. With the win, the Cyclones tie up the series with the Bluejays at 26-26-1 — the tie occurred on April 17, 1984, due to darkness. In that game, both teams tallied two runs in 11 innings.

“We stuck to the scout, our bullpen did a great job today,” head coach Jamie Pinkerton said in a postgame interview with ESPN+. “We got a few innings out of Liv Palumbo and then Schurman came in and did a really nice job after the game got tied.”
Reagan Bartholomew opened the scoring for Iowa State in the top of the third inning with her fifth home run of the season.

Creighton recorded their two runs in the bottom of the third inning as Avery Barnard’s double to right center scored Ella Dalton and Zoey Greenwood’s single through the right side scored Barnard.
Sydney Malott tied the game with a home run – her fifth on the season – to center during the first at bat of the fourth inning.

The Cyclones plated the final four runs of the game in the top of the fifth inning.
It started with Bettendorf native Jessie Clemons double to right centerfield. Then, Bartholomew’s single drove in Clemons. Karlee Ford’s single brought Bartholomew to third. Malott’s single scored Bartholomew and sent Ford to third base. Malott was able to advance to second on the throw. Mizzou transfer infielder Kadence Shepherd, of Blue Springs, Missouri, drove in Ford and Malott with a single up the middle.
Of the 12 hits Iowa State recorded, Bartholomew, Malott, Shepard and Star, Idaho, native Hayleigh Oliver had two hits each.
Lauren Schurman picked up the win in the circle allowed no hits, no runs in four innings of service. Schurman struck out two and faced 13 batters in the victory.
“Each time when they answered, we’d answer back,” Pinkerton said. “That’s what you ask with the team and I was really proud of the effort we gave tonight. We were really good defensively.”
Next upIowa State hosts Houston for a three game home series starting Friday at 4 p.m. The Saturday game is slated to start at 1 p.m. and the Sunday game at noon.
