Iowa football lands commitment from defensive back Jake Thies

Class of 2027 defensive back Jake Thies has committed to Iowa football, he announced March 28.

Thies, who attends Fenwick High School in Illinois, is a 3-star prospect, according to the 247 Sports Composite. He is listed at 6-feet and 185 pounds with a 6-foot-2 wingspan, according to his social media bio. He has also been timed running a 4.42 40-yard dash.
Thies had a standout junior season on a Fenwick team that won a state title, contributing on both sides of the ball. According to his social media, Thies logged 1,307 rushing yards, 422 receiving yards, five interceptions and three forced fumbles.

Thies chose Iowa over other finalists Illinois, UCLA, Duke and Northwestern.
Thies becomes the fourth commitment in Iowa's 2027 recruiting class, joining tight end Jaxx DeJean (younger brother of former Hawkeye Cooper DeJean), along with linebackers Gavin Stecker and Braylon Bingham. Thies is the first out-of-state commitment in Iowa's 2027 high school class.
