FSU pulls off comeback win over Boston College, moves to 13-13 on the season
· Yahoo Sports
Florida State (12-13, 5-7) welcomed Boston College (9-16, 2-10) to Tallahassee, Florida for a Tuesday night ACC clash. Florida State, coming off an emphatic win against Virginia Tech, looked to capitalize on that momentum in while Boston College entered this game on a six-game losing streak.
The Eagles controlled the first half of this one, shooting a ridiculous 8 of 12 from deep while Florida State shot a poor 3 of 17. Though the Seminoles trailed only a ten-point difference at half, the early indications seemed like the game seemed out of reach and continued to look so even early on in the second half.

However, even when facing as much as 14, FSU never said die, with Robert McCray V took over and leading the Seminoles on an offensive tear (headed up by his 27 points) to claim a late 80-72 comeback victory at home to move to .500 on the season.
First Half
Things got kicked off with both teams firing from three, with the Eagles taking advantage early through Guards Fred Payne and Luka Toews as, through six and a half minutes, the two combined for thirteen of BC’s first fifteen points.
Florida State went on a scoring drought of over five minutes. Looking up at a 21-8 score nearly ten minutes into the game, the Seminoles had to get something going on offense. Alex Steen finally broke Florida State’s scoring woes with an and-one spinning layup.
The Seminoles’ offense was completely stale, although they got a couple of tough buckets to go. Lajae Jones powered in a tough and-one by the rim to bring the Seminoles back within 11 points. The Eagles continued to rain down the threes, as Florida State continued to miss its attempts.
The Boston College team seemed to have much more energy in the first half, pressuring the rim, finding open passing lanes and kicking out to open shooters on the perimeter. Between this and Florida State’s overall 30% mark from the field, it wasn’t a surprise that Boston College led this one at half 42-32.
Second half
The story of the three continued to open the second half, with the first three buckets being threes. Boston College carried over its momentum from the first half with a strong effort on both sides, while the Seminoles continually struggled with careless turnovers. Thomas Bassong turned the ball over two possessions in a row by way of travel.
Trailing by as much as 14, Florida State cut the lead to 10 with 9:31 to go, with Thomas Bassong eventually hitting a huge three to cut the lead to seven, putting the Noles in reach with 8:07 remaining.
After a pair of missed free throws on Boston College’s end, FSU immediately responded with an and-one layup from Robert McCray, putting FSU within four with 7:13 on the clock. The Seminoles’ offense began to click at this point, with Alex Steen adding on with a tough finish underneath.
McCray hit a deep three to put the Seminoles within one point 6:12 left, but Boston College managed to stretch its lead back out to four by the 4:51 mark. Florida State stuck with it, and after a McCray jumper and AJ Swinton game-tying three with 3:50 remaining, the Seminoles were right back in it.
After a scoring drought from both sides, Lajae Jones snatched a huge offensive rebound off of a McCray missed three and laid it in with 2:33 on the clock to give FSU its first lead since the early minutes of the first half
Chauncey Wiggins gave Florida State a three-point lead on a huge three with 1:49 to go, and then McCray added to the lead with an isolation blow by and layup score to put Florida State up with 50 seconds left. After a Boston College missed three, this one wrapped up easily for the Seminoles to secure the win after a sluggish start.
Boston College owned the first half with its on-fire three-ball. Florida State didn’t get going on offense until the second half, but when Robert McCray got going, the Seminoles took over. With the help of an embarrassing free throw performance by Boston College, shooting 3-13 from the stripe, the Seminoles were able to get back into this one and made enough big plays at the end of the game to pull away and win this one 80-72.
Player of the Game
Robert McCray. In a night where efficiency was extremely hard to come by for the Seminoles, especially in the early part of the game, Robert McCray had a tremendously efficient scoring night. He scored 27 points, shooting 9/15 from the field and 3/5 from three, adding six rebounds, five assists and a block to his standout game.
His 27 points in this one were the most McCray scored since FSU’s close loss to Florida on November 11th, 2025. He completely took over on offense in the second half for the Seminoles and single-handedly got them out of their offensive slump and into a victory.
